The conversion of a solid or liquid into a gas or vapor.
Volume
(ANSI) A portion of data, together with its data carrier, that can be handled conveniently as a unit; e.g., a reel of magnetic tape, a disk pack, a diskette.
Volume Testing
Testing designed to challenge a system's ability to manage the maximum amount of data over a period of time. This type of testing also evaluates a system's ability to handle overload situations in an orderly fashion.
Volumetric Humidity
The water content of a compressed gas may be specified as mass per unit volume (mg-m-3) at 1013 mbar and at either 15 or 20 °C (59 or 68 °F)(also see: Moisture Content)
Voluntary
Free of coercion, duress, or undue inducement. Used in the research context to refer to a subject's decision to participate (or to continue to participate) in a research activity.

VPHP (Vapor Phase Hydrogen Peroxide)
VPHP Microbiodecontamination
Technology used to decontaminate the exposed, internal surfaces within a sealed isolator and the exposed, external surfaces of materials and components placed within the sealed isolator. It consists of four distinctive phases:1.Dehumidification – Lowers humidity and increases temperature2.Conditioning – “Ramp-up” (VPHP) at or below saturation conditions3.Sterilization – Steady-State (VPHP) at or below saturation conditions4.Aeration – Reduces the VPHP to Safe Levels

Weight per volume; the weight of a constituent in 100 cm3 of solution, expressed as a percentage.
Waiver of Authorization
Under limited circumstances, a waiver of the requirement for authorization for use or disclosure of private health information may be obtained from the IRB by the researcher. A waiver of authorization can be approved only if specific criteria have been met.
Walking
A method for cloning large regions of a chromosome. Starting from a known site, a gene library is screened for clones that hybridize to DNA probes taken from the ends of the first clone. These clones are then isolated, and their ends used to screen the library again. These clones are then isolated and their ends used, and so on.
Walkthrough
Wall Pressure
Pressure that a cell wall exerts against the turgor of the cell contents. Wall pressure is equal and opposite to the turgor potential.
